In April of 2018, we went to Southeast Asia (Thailand and Laos) and we couldn’t leave Chiang Mai out of our itinerary. At the total, we stayed 19 days in Asia and we reserved 16 days only for Thailand. Thailand is an amazing country and you will find everything there, attractions for all kind of people. Thailand is so perfect and so complete that it’s a pity not knowing it from South to the North and from East to the West.

And missing the North of Thailand is almost a sin! Chiang Mai is incredible and has many cool things to do there. You can visit a Natural Sanctuary for Elephants, go to Night Safari, meet the Night Bazaar and you also may see many beautiful Buddhist temples, ones very different from what we saw in Koh Samui, for example. All of these and much more.
We loved Chiang Mai. Below, we are showing some pictures of the main attractions we did there, like the Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep (one of the most beautiful and most important temples of the whole Thailand), Wat Chedi Luang, Happy Elephant Home and the Night Safari. We also selected some photos of the best moments of the one-day tour we did to Chiang Rai (to visit the White Temple) and to the Golden Triangle, area where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet at the confluence of the Ruak and Mekong Rivers.

We reserved 3 days for Chiang Mai. And during this period we prioritized to stay in a hotel with a good localization and of good appearance, with breakfast included, free Wi-Fi and one that it was great and cheap for us.
That’s why we stayed at De Lanna Hotel Chiang Mai. With no regrets, we chose to stay at the Historical Centre of the city. We visited the main temples of the region by walking. The ancient part of Chiang Mai already was a walled city some day and there we can find many bars, restaurants, hotels, shops, besides a lot of Buddhist temples. In my opinion, I thought that was the best region of Chiang Mai to stay, cuz you can do many things around there just by walking. The localization of the De Lanna Hotel couldn’t be more perfect.
A tour through the Old City (Old City Tour) includes to visit the following tourist attractions: Wat Chedi LuangWat PantaoWat Phra SinghWat Chiang ManChiang Mai Art Culture CenterWat Sri Suphan and the Warorot Market. There in Chiang Mai you will find many tourist agencies selling this tour, but I don’t recommend it. Staying at the De Lanna Hotel Chiang Mai you can do them all by yourself. Most of these places you can go by walking or you can get a Tuk Tuk in case you get tired. The distance, for example, between Wat Chedi Luang and the Warorot Market is only 3 km (1,9mi), around half hour by walking. Wat Tung Yu also stays at the Old City, very close to these other attractions, but it was not included at the Old City Tour because it’s not a big tourist attraction. However, it also stays very close to De Lanna Hotel (less than 5 minutes away), so you can visit it very quickly to take some photos and then go to the next attraction.

De Lanna Hotel is an amazing hotel in an excellent location in the heart of Chiang Mai Inner Old City, near Sunday Walking Street Market and Wat Phra Sigh. It’s only 10 minutes walking to Three Kings Monument and to Chiang Mai Art & Culture Centre. One of the main temples of the city (the famous Wat Chedi Luang) also stays less than 10 minutes walking distance. You can also walk to many other Buddhist temples in the Old City, like Wat Phantao, Wat Tung Yu and the Wat Phra Sigh, which is only 550 meters away.
