We visited Bali in September of 2019 and the first and most common question everybody does is where to stay in the island. The first thing you must have in mind is that Bali is huge and that you probably will take a long time to go from one place to another. Besides the main attractions be far away from each other, in Bali the traffic is chaotic. So we don’t recommend to rent scooters or a car. The greatest tip is to hire a local guide to take you on the trips. We did all our tours with the travel agency Onmywaytobali and we strongly recommend it. They made us a detailed itinerary and took us to all of our tours. To contact Rodrigo from Onmywaytobali, click here.

Bali is one of the biggest islands in Indonesia and surely is the most popular destination in the country among the tourists. Bali is known for its many lovely rice fields, beaches and waterfalls, for its swings, its mountains and forests, for its Hindu temples and because of the surf. Besides, the island is also desired for its yoga retreats.
The best beaches stay in the south of the island, starting from Canggu and going down until Kuta Beach, but mainly on its extreme south, in Uluwatu. Canggu and Kuta have good Hotels & Resorts, many bars and nice beaches. While Seminyak, Sanur and Nusa Dua are also very popular among the tourists. But nothing compares to Ubud’s energy. Ubud is magical and it became the face of Bali. There the hotels transmit an incredible peace and are surrounded by beautiful rice fields, temples, forests, waterfalls and yoga’s centers, being one of the most aimed regions to stay. Travellers go to Ubud to have an unique experience and to stay literally in the middle of the jungle. It’s simply amazing!
So, the first tip to book a hotel in Bali is to prioritize the areas below Ubud. Ubud stays basically in the center of the island, north to the capital Dempasar and it’s considered Bali’s cultural heart. We don’t recommend to stay in the north of Bali, cuz most attractions and the best beaches stay in the south. And like I said before, you take much time going from one place to another.
The second tip to book a room in Bali is to choose more than one region to stay, cuz every part of the island seems to be a different city. Ubud (our preferred one) is totally different from Seminyak, which is completely different from Canggu and etc. So I would choose at least 2 different “cities” to stay in Bali. Definitely, the first one would be Ubud. You can’t leave Indonesia without living the magical experience of Ubud. If you are looking for peace and calmness, then Ubud is the right place for you. The area is rich in culture and it’s surrounded by an amazing landscape and it has an unexplainable energy.
Finally, the third advice to find a hotel in Bali is to search for good references and take a look at the evaluations on sites like TripAdvisor, Booking and Hotels.com because there you can have a real idea of how your stay will be. And a very well reviewed hotel in Ubud is Villa Sabandari.

Villa Sabandari is a boutique luxury hotel with an excellent cost benefit in Ubud. It is comfortable and wonderful. You fall deeply in love with the place as soon as you get there. The place is beautiful, charming, surrounded by a tropical garden and rice fields. And the best part: it is not expensive! The price is really accessible. We strongly recommend it.

Villa Sabandari is a small exclusive resort, with just a few luxury bungalows, located in the middle of the rice fields of Ubud. Because it’s a small hotel, Villa Sabandari is totally exclusive, which makes the hotel even more lovely and familiar. There the peace and quietness are guaranteed. They offer a free shuttle service to the center, which helps a lot. The attendance is perfect, we felt like we were home.

The hotel enchants you in every detail, since the decoration of the lobby until the amazing breakfast, one of the bests we had in Asia. Villa Sabandari is a real paradise.

On most of our trips we don’t spend too much time inside the room or in the hotel itself, but in Ubud is different. The choice of your hotel can be the most important decision in your trip planning. A dirty hotel, that sinks and it’s small and in a bad neighborhood can easily ruin your whole vacation or business trip. Specially in Ubud, where the place claims for a charming and magical hotel like Villa Sabandari.
And the best part is that you don’t have to spend a lot of money for this, because Villa Sabandari is affordable to everyone. The place has an excellent cost benefit. It’s really worth!

LOCATION

Bali is known as the “island of gods” and Villa Sabandari is located among rice fields and beautiful temples which surround Ubud. Masceti Temple is one of the hotel’s neighbors and from the other side of the rice field it’s possible to see a small temple.

Each suite has mini bar, room safe, ceiling fans, air conditioning, private balcony, wireless internet, hairdryer, complimentary Fruit Basket and bottled water, tea/coffee making, sofa bed, desk, bathrobes and daily room service. It’s really amazing! We stayed at Baris Room, an upstairs suite overlooking the infinity pool, the tropical garden and the rice fields. We loved everything about it, this room is perfect!

Baris Room

The room with a modern decoration really enchants you immediately. Besides, the bedroom and the bed are extremely comfortable, making you have a perfect night of rest (specially after a tiring day visiting many attractions in the city). The bed is really great, we slept very well there. And this is very important during a vacation or business trip. You must recharge your batteries, unless on the next day you will still be tired.
Baris Suite is a Deluxe Room with a King Size Bed, but it can also be equipped with Twin Beds (upon request). The room also has a sofa bed and the thing that called our attention about this suite was the Open Air Rain Shower. But despite that, they made it in a way that you can still have luxury and privacy. We loved that! The open shower is very common in Indonesia.

Barong Suite is also a upstairs room, located next to the rice fields. It’s a Deluxe Room with a King Size Bed (or 2 single beds), a sofa bed and also has a open air rain shower. The room has view of the Rice Fields, a small temple, the Tropical Garden and Infinity Pool.

Kecak is a ground floor room with view of the garden and the pool. It’s a Standard Room with a King Size Poster Bed and a Private Terrace. It has a Half Open Rain Shower.

Staying at Villa Sabandari you will have free access to a private free shuttle to/from central Ubud. During check in time they give you all the information you need about the hotel and about this transfer. Certainly, this is a great thing about this hotel.
Even if you check out very early in the morning, they prepare your breakfast and give you in a box to go. We thought this was amazing! The attendance there is really perfect!
Another thing to consider about Villa Sabandari is its amazing breakfast. The ingredients are fresh with high quality. And you get the option to have your breakfast facing the pool and the tropical garden directly straight from your balcony. It’s amazing! The view depends on which room you are staying, but they all have amazing views.
The breakfast is really delicious and very well served. There are many options of cereals, breads, croissants, jams, fruits, coffee, juice and teas.
Check out below some pictures of our Breakfast at Villa Sabandari, where we chose to have it in the comfort of our own room. It was amazing!
