Bora Bora, the “Pearl of the Pacific”, has an indescribable beauty. Its sharp relief and turquoise waters where a multi-color aquatic fauna (sting & manta rays, sharks and tropical fishes) can be observed by canoe, boat or diving explorations.

To go to Bora Bora all you need to do is to save money. It’s an expensive trip, especially for those who doesn’t earn in US dollars. Second of all, it will help if you speak English or French and you can’t be afraid to fly. Then, you should study about the place, the better period to go there, the options and prices of the hotels and it will be good if you also talk to someone who has already been there, like us!

Bora Bora, Tahiti

Well, since a long time ago we dreamed to meet Bora Bora, especially on our Honeymoon, but it seemed to be a dream almost impossible because of the valorization of the US dollar against the brazilian currency, increasing even more the price for us. But  thank God we could find a agency in Tahiti that could make our dream come true. And it was worthy each cent we spent and each second we took to get there.

Bora Bora amazes you even before you arrive at the airport. Inside the aircraft flying from Papeete to Bora Bora you can admire the fantastic view from up there. It’s really amazing! I will never forget that feeling. Our dream finally became true! The mix of colors of the ocean was something hard to explain.

Bora Bora’s airport is very small but is very charming. You just get off the plane and face that amazing ocean just in front of you. It’s amazing! To leave the airport is only possible by boat. When we arrived there, there was already someone of the agency to receive us and to guide us to the boat that would take us to our hotel.

So, as you could see, your arrival at Bora Bora will definitely leave you with one of the nicest memories of your trip: the airport being located on an islet, your flight will be followed by a short boat ride over the lagoon along the numerous islets – that welcome those delightful deluxe resorts with their famous overwater bungalows – before reaching the village of Vaitape.

  • When is the best period to go to Bora Bora?

The island is really magic and amazes you all the time. We went to Bora Bora in September of 2015. From May to October is the best period to meet this paradise on the South Pacific. On the other months get more chances to rain. Even going on September we still got one whole rainy day (it really rained a lot) and we took the opportunity to leave the resort and meet the city out of the fairy tale. We took a shuttle on the hotel to go downtown and on the way back we stopped at Bloody Marys, the most famous restaurant of Bora Bora that already received people like Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp, Cameron Diaz and Charlie Sheen.

Who lives in the America continent usually fly to Bora Bora by Chile or Los Angeles. Who lives in Brazil (like us) is closer to go via Chile but we decided to go via LA for 2 reasons: 1) Alexandre wanted to meet USA; and 2) we got a very good travel package that already included the air flight tickets from LA to Bora Bora (with all taxes and transfers included). The company is from Tahiti and you can trust on them. The name of the travel agency ise-Tahiti Travel. For brazilians it’s a lot cheaper if you book all with some agency out of Brazil. If you pay fully at once they also give you a good discount, but you don’t need to pay at once with you don’t want. What they say is that your final payment must be received 30 days or more prior to your arrival in French Polynesia. Who ever wants to contact them, you can email Herald (herald@etahititravel.com) and say that Priscila from Travellers Experience blog has indicated them.

Once you contact him, he will really help you with everything. The first vacation packages that he made included one night in Papeete and 6 nights in Bora bora (who ever wants to go to Moorea and other islands of Polynesia just tell him), but searching on the internet we saw that going only to Bora Bora is more than enough. We had to eliminate the night in Papeete and one day in Bora Bora because it was getting very expensive for us, but if you have the opportunity go also to Papeete. Teahupoo (famous beach known for the surf break) stays in Papeete, but it’s very far from the airport, around 2 hours by car. We would like to go there, but we gave up because it was to far away and we didn’t have enough time. Not yet satisfied with the options Herald gave me, I started to search on the internet for honeymoon packages in Bora Bora and I saw a lot of agencies offering different kinds of packages that included the air flight tickets already (from LA), all the transfers, taxes and half-board (you must ask for half-board because eating there is very expensive).

Then, I started to email these companies and without notice I was dealing with Herald again, that planned our trip the way we wanted and in a price we could pay. We booked in February of 2015 and we traveled in September of the same year. Besides e-tahiti travel (www.etahititravel.com), there are other agencies that do the same, like Custom Tahiti Travel (www.CustomTahiti.com) and Pacific Islands (www.Pacificislands.com). It’s worth to contact each one of them and look for the best travel package and also for the best price.

  • WHERE TO STAY IN BORA BORA?

Bora Bora has many options of Hotels and Resorts. We wanted to stay in a overwater bungalow in a very good resort that we could afford it. And we chose the INTERCONTINENTAL BORA BORA LE MOANA RESORT, an amazing luxury 4-star resort located on the southernmost point of Bora Bora, close to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. And the beaches are really that perfect, we got in love with the place.

We loved everything about this hotel: the localization, accomodations, the private beach, the pool, the breakfast, bar, our room, everything was perfect! We strongly recommend it! The breakfast is amazing, you can find of everything and you have the option to take it in front of the beach, with your feet on the sand. It was amazing and also very romantic.

Our overwater bungalow was also perfect, the way we always dreamed. It had a balcony which we could enter straight to the water and it also had a glass floor that we could see the fishes through it.

There are many fishes on that beach and if you feed them, they will come closer. It is beautiful! I really liked to swim with the fishes there.

Besides that perfect ocean, the pool at the Resort was also fantastic. We loved it!

One interesting thing is that staying at Le Moana Resort, you can also spend the day at the other Resort of the Intercontinental Brand, the Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa. You can use its pool and also take the breakfast there, with no additional cost. Thalasso is a 5-star hotel and is more luxurious than Le Moana and has a better breakfast, but we preferred the beach from Le Moana’s Resort. The private beach of Thalasso had many little rocks along its shoreline, which makes walking around bare foot hard. You need to wear some type of sandals while walking along the shoreline. Even deep in the water there are my rocks, so it’s better if you wear that water shoes. We spent most of our time there on the pool. But the Resort is amazing, if you choose to stay there you definitely will live a unique 5-star experience in Bora Bora.
